About halieus
Jesus calls us to be fishers of men – ἁλιεύς ἄνθρωπος - halieus anthrōpos. In the Gospel of John, chapter 13, verses 34 and 35, he told his disciples, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (NIV).
As Jesus’ disciples, we are called to live out this love – the love he first showed us by his life, death, and resurrection. Part of this entails taking care of our brothers and sisters in our families, our communities, and around the world.
This site is dedicated to providing Christians with news and information about what is going on in the world, and how they can get involved either locally or abroad.
Associations
Just to preemptively answer a question:
Neither I nor this site are officially affiliated or associated with any church or denomination. I do, however, attend a particular church regularly. I believe in community, and I don’t think you can be an effective member of a community if you’re not rooted in one. I don’t propose that my denomination is better than all others; I do propose that commitment is godly.
Many of the connections I’ve made over the years (through campus ministries, missions work, and my church) are directly associated with the Assemblies of God. Since that is the denomination most of my work has been affiliated with, you find that many of my links or references are to A/G-affiliated organizations. Please do not take this to mean that I am implying that the A/G is superior to other denominations. This site is being built from the ground up, and I’m starting with what I know. If you know of any good organizations that are worthy of mention, please leave comments about them so that I can look into them. The more, the merrier.
